Starz Renews ‘Power’

Network Greenlights Second Season of Freshman Crime Drama

It didn’t take long for Starz to renew its freshman drama series Power.

Starz on Wednesday greenlit a second season of the crime drama days after the debut of the series’ premiere episode. Power, which follows the life of James “Ghost” St. Patrick as he negotiates between being a successful nightclub ownership and a powerful drug dealer, pulled in 462,000 viewers during its  June 7 premiere, according to Nielsen live + same-day data.

With encores, the series tallied 1.27 million watchers on Saturday. Adding 150,000 watchers for one telecast on sister service Encore and more re-airs on Sunday drove Power's opening weekend total to 2 million.

Power is executive produced by Courtney Kemp Agboh (The Good Wife) and produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The 10-episode second season will begin filming this September.

“I am so grateful to Chris Albrecht, Carmi Zlotnik, and everyone at Starz for their support of Power. I am thrilled and excited to have the opportunity to create a season two that we plan to be bigger and better than the first,” said  Agboh.
