Starz Encore Group LLC announced Monday that movie composer Danny Elfman has created the new Starz! signature theme music, which will accompany its new on-air graphics look that's scheduled to bow Dec. 14, linked to the premiere of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
The new graphics package was developed by Los Angeles-based Spark, part of the Archipelago creative consortium. Spark principal Elaine Cantwell was also behind Target Corp.'s recent bull's-eye campaign, themed "Sign of the Times."
Elfman, who worked with the Los Angeles Philharmonic on the Starz! theme, is known for such movie music credits as Spider-Man, Men in Black, Batman and Beetlejuice.
"We tried to get away from the usual film reels, spotlights and clapboards and focus more on the star icon because we felt that the star could eventually help to brand not only the channel, but our company, as well," Starz Encore vice president of on-air promotions Che Che Mata said in a prepared statement.
