Steve Herbst Takes Reigns At CBS College Sports Network

CBS College Sports Network Wednesday announced the appointment of Steve Herbst as the sports network’s new general manager and executive vice president.

Herbst, who most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of broadcasting at NBA TV, will responsible for the day-to-day operations of the network and report directly to Sean McManus, president of CBS news and sports.

“Steve is the perfect executive to continue the tremendous momentum at CBS College Sports Network,” McManus said in a statement. “His leadership and experience in the cable and sports television industry will move CBS College Sports Network to a new level as we continue to grow the network as an asset across all CBS businesses.”

Prior to heading NBA TV’s broadcasting operations, Herbst was vice president, series programming and NBA TV, for NBA Entertainment as well as NBA Entertainment’s senior director of production. In these roles, he supervised NBA and WNBA production, including programs such as NBA Inside Stuff, NBA Match-up and other programming for NBA TV.

In other news, CSN announced it has expanded its carriage on Time Warner Cable’s Southwest division systems in Texas on June 1. The network will join Metrosports in El Paso on TWC’s expanded basic service, channel 24, and will be available on digital value channel 309 in Beaumont, the Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi.

“We’re thrilled to be serving the interests of college sports fans throughout Southwest Texas,” Bob Rose, executive vice president, distribution, CBS College Sports Network, said in a statement. “With our extensive Conference USA and Mountain West Conference programming, we will connect Time Warner customers to the college teams and sports they care about.” 

CBS College Sports Network features a full line-up of regular-season and championship events for 35 men’s and women’s college sports, as well as the network’s award-winning original programming, live studio shows and documentaries.
