Comedy Central said Thursday that it has extended The Daily Show with Jon Stewart host Jon Stewart’s contract through 2008.

Stewart is also an executive producer and writer for The Daily Show. His contract had been set to expire at the end of 2004.

He took over hosting duties Jan. 11, 1999.

Stewart has received two Emmy Award nominations for "Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program."

"Jon is one of the great young comedic minds of our time," Comedy CEO Larry Divney said in a prepared statement. "His ability to assess what's happening in the world and use humor to dissect the rhetoric and present the truth in its simplest form is unparalleled."
