DirecTV Inc.’s Spanish-language package reported robust growth in the first quarter of 2005.
The direct-broadcast satellite provider said its “DirecTV Para Todos” package added 120,000 net new subscribers during the period, up 63% over the previous quarter’s gains and up 222% compared with the first quarter of 2004.
As of March 31, DirecTV Para Todos totaled more than 700,000 customers.
“We are changing the landscape of Spanish-language TV in the United States to become a 'home away from home' for U.S. Hispanics," DirecTV senior director of marketing Mark Ryan said in a prepared statement.
“In developing what we call our 65/35 programming strategy, we know that our Hispanic customers' most important need is to connect with their country of origin, with the culture and their traditions,” he added.
DirecTV Para Todos provides access to more than 50 Spanish-language channels.
