In the latest installment of cable’s red-carpet wars between Star and Kathy vs. Joan and Melissa, both sides can sound victories for their coverage of the festivities leading up to last night’s 47th annual Grammy Awards.
E! Entertainment Television’s Live from the Red Carpet: 2005 Grammy Awards averaged a 1.4 household rating Feb. 13 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. (EST) in 56 metered markets, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
That gave Star Jones Reynolds and special correspondent Kathy Griffin a 133% advantage over the 0.60 mark nabbed by TV Guide Channel’s Rivers girls, who defected from E! last year, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. E!'s music correspondent, David Adelson, hosted the first hour of the network’s coverage.
Joan & Melissa Live at the Grammy Awards marked a 300% jump from the 0.2 ratings average for TV Guide’s pre-Grammy coverage in 2004. E!, on the other hand, saw its number slide 42% from a 2.4 metered mark last year.
In going head-to-head from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., E! officials said the network produced a 1.7 rating, giving it a 183% edge over TV Guide.
