Study: Keep Digital Boxes Under $200

BOSTON -While set-tops that enable video-on-demand, digital video recording and other advanced applications will be popular with many consumers, price points for the boxes must remain below $200, or a large chunk of potential buyers could lose interest, TechTrends Inc. concluded in a recent study. The report also indicated that DBS subscribers will pay more for premium cable subscribers for interactive-set-tops. Specifically, 25 percent of DBS customers would pay more than $200, compared to 20 percent of premium cable subs, TechTrends said. Internet-savvy consumers, meanwhile, are more than twice as likely as casual users to pay more than $200 for an ITV box.
