Style Network Sets Non-Scripted Series On Obese Woman

The Style Network has a new non-scripted series, Ruby, that takes viewers inside the life of Ruby Gettinger, a 500-pound young woman who is told she’ll die if she doesn’t lose weight, officials said Wednesday.

The series, which debuts this fall, will show viewers the world through the eyes of an obese person living in a society that caters to regular-sized people with seemingly ordinary activities presenting many difficult challenges, such as sitting down in a chair, getting dressed and going to the movies.

“Style's programming is centered on engaging personalities and inspirational stories that are relatable to real women," Salaam Coleman Smith, Style’s executive vice president, said in a prepared statement. "Ruby is a warm-hearted, beautiful woman whose smile lights up the room. We believe that Style's female audience will connect with her emotional journey and everyday challenges as she faces this critical crossroads."

Ruby, who lives in Savannah, Ga., has been told by her doctor that she needs to lose the weight if she wants to continue to live. Viewers will witness what Ruby believes is her final attempt to take off hundreds of pounds and save her own life. She will join forces with a team of experts, including a trainer, nutritionist, therapist and physician, who are committed to educate and motivate her as she tries to end her cycle of food addiction and start down the path to health and happiness.
