Subscriber-Acquisition Costs Hike TiVo’s Net Loss

TiVo Inc. added a record 264,000 subscriptions in its fiscal first quarter ended April 30, but the costs of doing so expanded its net loss.

The digital-video-recorder vendor posted a net loss of $9.1 million, or 11 cents per share, for the quarter, compared with a year-earlier loss of $7.9 million (12 cents).

For its fiscal second quarter, TiVo said it is projecting 265,000-300,000 new subscribers, revenue of $25 million-$25.8 million and an operating loss of $19 million-$21 million.
