SureWest Fires Up IP Network

SureWest Communications has launched an Internet-protocol network in the Sacramento, Calif., region, the competitive services provider said.

The company added that it can now provide voice, video and data services over both fiber and copper.

“To thrive in the highly competitive and regulated telecommunications marketplace, SureWest utilizes technology advancements to provide our customers useful and speedy new products and services that they can depend on now and in the future,” CEO Brian Strom said in a prepared statement.

SureWest’s main competition in the cable arena is Comcast Corp., and it does battle with AT&T Corp. and SBC Communications Inc. in the telephony sector.
