Just in time for the opening whistle of the National Basketball Association season, SureWest Communications reached an agreement to carry regional sports network Comcast SportsNet West.
SureWest’s digital subscribers will have immediate access to Comcast SportsNet West, the operator said.
The Comcast Corp.-owned network will be anchored by games from the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and the Women’s NBA’s Sacramento Monarchs.
It will also feature extensive college-sports coverage, including Sacramento State University football; University of California, Davis football and basketball; and Fresno State football, as well as selected games from the Western Athletic Conference, Big Sky Conference and Mountain West Conference.
SureWest is taking on incumbent operator Comcast Corp. in the Sacramento, Calif., region, having launched an Internet-protocol network there in late June to provide voice, video and data services over both fiber and copper.
“Our goal is to reach as many Sacramento Kings fans and other sports fans as possible throughout Northern California,” Comcast SportsNet West general manager Mike Sheehey said in a prepared statement. “We are pleased to provide our programming to SureWest customers to reach more fans in the Sacramento area.”
