SusCom Tacks on Internet Content

Susquehanna Communications will bundle premium content services with its high-speed Internet product.

The York, Pa.-based MSO and Synacor have signed a deal that brings content from Walt Disney Internet Group and FoxSports.com, among other providers, to SusCom cable-modem subscribers in a $39.95-per-month package, starting in April.

"Synacor is providing SusCom with a complete solution that includes the infrastructure and content we need to provide our customers with the best content and services on the Internet without leaving our side," said SusCom vice president of marketing and programming Dan Templin in a statement.

Synacor's content includes the Fox Sports "Hit the Pros" Web site game plus Fox Sports Fantasy Challenge Games from golf, basketball, racing and baseball.

Fox said it would provide video content specific to the region, which means York sports fans would get a mix of news about Baltimore and Philadelphia teams.

From Disney, Synacor obtained rights to resell ESPN.com's ESPN Insider paid offering, as well as Disney's Blast subscription service.

Other Disney Online content will be made available, along with material from ABCNEWS.com, FamilyFun.com and ESPN.com.

In addition to Fox and Disney content, Synacor will distribute movies from CinemaNow and credit reports from Experian Consumer Direct.

CEO Ron Frankel, a former MGM Interactive executive, said it's important to marry both audio and video material with experiential services for consumers.

Synacor will create a new home page for SusCom and will host the MSO's content on its servers. SusCom subscribers will see content via Synacor's Proteus provisioning platform.

Frankel said MSOs can cut their own licensing deals with content providers or let Synacor handle that process. In either case, they can use the Proteus platform for provisioning.
