T-Mobile Pitches Free Year of Hulu to AT&T Converts Who Also Took Free Year of DirecTV Now

In addition to taking jabs at the technical issues that have dogged DirecTV Now in the early phases of its service launch, T-Mobile said it is offering a free year of Hulu to AT&T mobile subs who switch to T-Mobile.

Last month, T-Mobile launched a promo that offered a free year of DirecTV Now, AT&T’s OTT-TV service that debuted on Nov. 30, to AT&T mobile subs who defected to T-Mobile.

Under the revised promotion introduced Wednesday, T-Mobile customers who took the DirecTV Now offer can also get a free year of Hulu’s SVOD service with limited commercials (Hulu also offers a commercial free version of the service and is nearing the debut of a new multichannel pay TV service).

T-Mobile said that every former AT&T customer who signed up for a free year of DirecTV Now will receive a notification and a code that gets them a free year of Hulu in the "coming weeks.”  Notably, the promo is not combinable with some offers, such as T-Mobile’s Carrier Freedom option.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere also unleashed a tweetstorm to shed light on the Hulu promo while also taking some potshots at DirecTV Now’s recent technical troubles and some of the poor reviews that have followed.

Yup – enjoy a streaming service that ACTUALLY works & watch as much @Hulu as you want w/ #TMobileONE!!

AT&T has been asked for comment on the new T-Mobile promo.

AT&T disclosed last week that DirecTV Now drove 200,000 video subscriber additions in Q4. AT&T is scheduled to release Q4 numbers today, and DirecTV Now is expected to be a prime topic of the company’s earnings call.
