TBS Picks Up New Sitcom

In its first series pick-up since former Fox exec Kevin Reilly was named president of TBS, the network has ordered 10 episodes of a new sitcom from husband-and-wife team Jason Jones and Samantha Bee.

The as-yet unnamed series, based on the duo's family road trips, stars Jones, Natalie Zea (Justified, The Following), Ashley Gerasimovich (Louie, We Need to Talk about Kevin) and Liam Carroll (The Neighbors) as a nuclear family on a vacation where everything goes wrong. Think the Vacation film franchise meets a new generation.

Jones and Bee are serving as executive producers on the TBS project. They also wrote the pilot, which was directed by Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine, About Last Night). The duo has been working on Comedy Central's The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and had been mentioned as possible replacements when Stewart leaves the show later this year, but Jones announced via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 24) that he is leaving the satirical news show.

TBS said the new series will start production this summer and will premiere in the fourth quarter. The network has three other scripted comedies set to debut this year, including Angie Tribeca, starring Rashida Jones and created by Daily Show alum Steve Carell and Nancy Carell; Your Family or Mine, starring Kyle Howard, Kat Foster, Richard Dreyfuss, Ed Begley Jr. and Cynthia Stevenson; and Buzzy's, a workplace comedy with Ashley Tisdale, Mike Castle, Lauren Lapkus, Ryan Pinkston, Matt Cook and George Wendt.
