Pasadena--BET drew 19 NAACP Image Awards nominations to lead all cable and broadcast TV networks, the civil rights organization and TV One announced Wednesday.
TV One, which will televise live the Feb. 22 NAACP Image Awards telecast, presented the nominations during a star-studded session its Television Critics Association Winter tour session here. The NAACP Image Awards celebrate the accomplishments of people of color in the fields on television, music, literature and film.
CBS drew 16 nominations, while ABC and HBO garnered 15 and 13 nominations respectively.
BET drew multiple nominations in several categories, including Outstanding Comedy Series where the network’s The Game and Real Husbands of Hollywood will contend against Showtime’s House Of Lies, ABC’s Modern Family and TV Land’s The Soul Man.
HBO drew 13 nods for NAACP Image Awards, including two nods in the Outstanding Drama series category for Boardwalk Empire and Treme. ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal as well as CBS’ The Good Wife will also compete in the category.
Showtime, TV Land, USA, FX, OWN, Lifetime, VH1, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon also generated multiple Image Award nominations. Celebrity presenters at the session included David Oyelowo (The Butler); Joe Morton (Scandal); Keke Palmer (Vh1) Bresha Webb (Love That Girl) and Gina Torres (Suits)
TV One also announced that it will launch later this year Unsung Hollywood – an offshoot of its popular music-based Unsung documentary series – which will profile African-American actors and actresses who have played important roles in popular culture but have not necessarily become household names.
