Discovery Communications-owned TLC will go inside the life of controversial evangelist Ted Haggard in a new special scheduled for Jan. 16.
The one-hour special, Scandalous, follows Haggard and his family as they look to launch a new ministry in Colorado Springs - the same town he was exiled from five years ago after the once powerful pastor was caught having a sexual encounter with a male prostitute.
In other Discovery Communications news, Discovery Channel will launch this summer a Chicago-based spinoff of its popular reality series Cash Cab.
The new series will be hosted by comedian Beth Melewski and will follow a similar format to the New York-based, Emmy Award-winning series. The original Ben Bailey-hosted Cash Cab will continue in spring 2011 with new episodes, according to Discovery officials.
"We are excited to launch Cash Cab in a city that has such a strong identity and sense of place," said Clark Bunting, president and general manager of Discovery Channel in a statement. "Beth brings an authenticity and great comedic heritage to the series."
Later this month, the network will a new reality series, Kidnap & Rescue, which explores the people who risk their lives to rescue innocent victims taken both within our boarders and internationally.
The 10-episode series tells stories through cinematic re-creations real-life kidnappings, the rescue planning and recoveries, and the outcomes -- both successful and tragic, according to network officials.
In February, Discovery Channel will debut an eight part reality series that will place nine Americans in a test of survival in a remote area of Venezuela.
The series, Out Of The Wild will follow the Americans as they use very few supplies to find their way out of a remote corner of Venezuela's southern frontier and back to civilization, said network officials.
