TCTA Hires Former Texas Rep.

The Texas Cable & Telecommunications Association has hired a veteran of the state legislature to handle governmental relations and telecommunications policy.

Former representative Todd Baxter was hired, in part, due to his contacts and his experience with telecommunications issues, gained when he served on the state House's Committee on Regulated Industries.

Although cable operators lost their fight to prevent state franchising of competitive newcomers such as Verizon Communications Inc., the association has many other important legislative issues to face, such as the current evaluation by the Public Utility Commission on how to collect and disburse universal-service-fund fees from telecommunications providers.

Baxter succeeds Kathy Grant, who recently left the association to open a private consulting practice.
