TechTV deep-sixed its New York, Seattle and Silicon Valley bureaus Monday
night, laying off 19 people.

The bureaus provided reports for Tech Live, the channel's half-hour
nightly newsmagazine.

It's the second time in six months that TechTV, owned by Paul Allen company
Vulcan Ventures Inc., has terminated staff and resources associated with Tech
Live
, which premiered in April 2001 as a nine-hour news and information
block.

The block was cut last fall, separated into three daily 60- and 90-minute
segments. A large chunk of the program's production team received their walking
papers this past spring, when the current half-hour format was instituted.

For now, Tech Live will keep floating, TechTV chief operating officer
Joseph Gillespie said in a prepared statement. The program is 'delivering on our
programming strategy of providing our viewers with more lifestyle- and
entertainment-based programming,' he added.

Tech Live operates from the network's San Francisco headquarters. A news
bureau in Washington, D.C., will remain in place.
