Tel Aviv, Israel-The country's three cable companies-Golden Channels Ltd., Tevel Israel International Communications Ltd. and Matav Cable Systems Media Ltd.-will all be allowed to offer pay-per-view movies and certain live events, according to a recent ruling by the Israel Cable and Satellite Broadcasts Council. The council also eliminated the "dubbing tax," under which operators paid $1.60 per subscriber, per year-or about $1.6 million-for each foreign channel dubbed or subtitled into Hebrew.
