Telemundo Sets Marks With La Reina del Sur Finale

Telemundo
said its blockbuster novela La Reina del Sur averaged nearly 4.2 million
viewers in its final episode Monday night, the most ever for an entertainment
show on the Hispanic broadcast network.

The
concluding episode averaged more than 2.8 million adults in the 18-49 age group
and, according to early Nielsen results, was the No. 1 broadcast program
regardless of language at 10 p.m. May 30 among adults 18-34, men 18-49 and men
18-34, according to the NBCUniversal-owned network.

The
telenovela's finale was second, regardless of language, behind ABC's series
premiere of Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss
Edition
in the 10 p.m. hour among adults 18-49, Telemundo said.

The
La Reina del Sur finale more than
doubled (+125%) the delivery of the network's previous most-watched finale, El Clon, which averaged more than 1.2
million adults 18-49 when it aired on Dec. 10, 2002, again per the network.

The
show -- which translates to Queen of the South and is based on a Spanish novel
about a young woman who becomes a powerful drug trafficker -- was Telemundo's
most successful novela ever, reaching 16.6 million total viewers (persons 2+).

Last
week, Telemundo launched its first-ever Emmy campaign for the show and its
cross-over star Kate del  Castillo.
