Terayon Communication Systems Inc. reported a net loss of $10.2 million in the first quarter of 2004 on revenue of $41.2 million, a substantial improvement over its net loss of $24 million on revenue of $22.3 million in first-quarter 2003.

First-quarter results also included a one-time charge of $3.4 million relating to restructuring activities and related asset write-offs.

Terayon executives said the revenue increase stemmed from increased sales from its digital-video and domestic cable-modem-termination-system divisions.

Year over year, subscriber-line product revenue increased from $13.7 million to $23.8 million while CMTS revenue jumped from $4.5 million to $11.1 million.
