TFN Signs with Time Warner

Beleaguered start-up The Football Network scored a major distribution deal Tuesday, signing with Time Warner Cable to make the upstart sports network available to all 11 million of the MSO’s subscribers.

Time Warner joins Cox Communications Inc. and the National Cable Television Cooperative in reaching distribution deals with the 24-hour football network, although the MSO is not committing any subscribers.

The network -- which went off the air in December after a soft launch -- is in the midst of trying to raise millions of dollars to keep itself on the cable playing field.

"This is a very important step for us, and one that reinforces how viable The Football Network is to the cable community," TFN CEO Jerry Solomon said in a prepared statement.
