thePlatform, the Comcast-owned Web video publishing company, is accelerating its expansion into Latin America via a strategic partnership with LSDLive, an Argentina-based provider of live events for the region.
Under the deal, LSDLive has licensed thePlatform’s flagship mpx multiscreen publishing system and bundle it with its suite of video production, encoding, uploading services and live event technical support.
The companies said the tech combo is already being used to handle online video publishing for a handful of joint customers, including Grupo Clarín, Argentina’s largest media conglomerate; Infobae, the third-largest newspaper in Argentina; Paka Paka, a provider of children’s TV programming; Canal Encuentro, a TV channel for documentary and public broadcasting; 360tv Digital, a new online channel; and Iurd TV, a provider of faith-based programming.
thePlatform continues to establish new lines of business outside the U.S. Examples of international partners and customers include Rogers Communications of Canada; BT in the U.K.; Telstra in Australia; Sky TV New Zealand; and Liberty Global, a U.S.-based firm that operates cable systems in Europe.
“We’ve had our eye on the tremendous opportunity in Latin America for some time,” said Marty Roberts, senior vice president of sales and marketing at thePlatform, in a statement. “Now, with LSDLive, we have a partner with proven experience and an exceptional reputation serving the Latin America video market.”
thePlatform declined to break down what percentage of its business is comes from outside the U.S., noting only that “international revenues continue to make up a growing percentage of overall revenue.”
