Thomson Plugs Into Time Warner Cable


Thomson Multimedia scored another business bull's-eye, signing a deal with
Time Warner Cable to provide its Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification
cable modems to the MSO.

Thomson, which markets its gear under the RCA brand, will become a preferred
cable-modem supplier for Time Warner under the deal.

The modem includes universal-serial-bus and 10/100Base Ethernet connections,
with quick installation features and home-networking-management software. It is
DOCSIS 1.1-upgradable.

'We are pleased to be selected by Time Warner Cable,' said Peter Polit,
Thomson's general manager for broadband data and voice-over-Internet protocol
products, in a release.

'This agreement is mutually beneficial -- validating Thomson's broadband-data
strategy based on active support of CableLabs [Cable Television Laboratories
Inc.] standards and providing TWC with the latest RCA digital cable modems,
which deliver a significant layer of value-added features to aid operators,' he
