TI Develops Video-Over-DSL Platform

Texas Instruments Inc. said it has developed new technology that would allow telephone companies to provide HDTV video services over digital-subscriber-line connections.

The new “Uni-DSL” technology works with both asymmetrical DSL and very high-speed DSL standards from a single-line-card design.

TI said it plans to target the cross-connect boxes that are located 4,000-6,000 feet from end-users. The company said telcos could deploy fiber to that point, then use existing copper plant to deliver 50 megabits per second to 100 mbps to the home.
