ESPN is expected to announce a 20 percent rate increase this week, cable and
satellite operators told Reuters Wednesday.
The hike comes as direct-broadcast satellite operators and MSOs are railing
about programming costs, especially those for ESPN.
However, The Walt Disney Co.-owned network is a crucial component of most of
their lineups, and its price increase is in line with those of past years.
ESPN acknowledged to Reuters that it would mail letters to customers Thursday
with news of a rate increase that would take place Aug. 1, but the network
declined to comment on the amount.
