Time Warner Cable's News 14 Carolina network will air 50 Charlotte Bobcats National Basketball Association games under terms of a deal between the team and the MSO, announced Monday, AP reported.
News 14 Carolina is available in Charlotte, Raleigh and Greensboro, N.C., on basic and in certain areas of South Carolina on the operator’s digital-sports tier, according to AP.
However, even after the Time Warner pact, fans in areas served by other cable operators in the Carolinas and direct-broadcast satellite subscribers will only be able to see 15 games scheduled for over-the-air television, AP reported.
The club launched its own sports network last season -- Carolinas Sports Entertainment Television, or C-SET -- available only on Time Warner's digital-cable tier. The network ceased operations in June, but the Bobcats still had an exclusive deal with the MSO under the original C-SET agreement, according to AP.
“We are free to market to other cable operators in the region, and we are doing that,” Bobcats president Ed Tapscott told AP. “Those efforts are under way. In our deal, satellite will not be part of the package at all. We believe we'll now be in 1.2 million-1.3 million households across the region. We think we have much wider distribution to far more people than we had before.”
