Time Warner Cable Files To Trademark 'Social One'

Time Warner Cable may be planning to launch a service that aggregates social-media content on TV and online, as hinted at in the operator's trademark filing earlier this year for "Social One."

The May 5 filing with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office describes "computer software that provides web-based access to applications and services through a web operating system or portal interface; computer software for use on mobile and web platforms which aggregates content from other sources, such as social media feeds and allows users to manipulate content aggregated from other sources."

The trademark also covers "providing access via a global computer network and television to email, instant messaging and social media accounts within a single user interface; providing online access to aggregated user content, namely, text, audio, and video; providing Internet access; providing e-mail and instant messaging services; [and] transmission of news."

Time Warner Cable did not respond to a request for comment. The "Social One" trademark filing was reported Tuesday by Fierce Cable.

The "Social One" trademark filing has been assigned serial no. 85313890 and is scheduled to be published for opposition Nov. 1.

The website SocialOne.com is an online dating site that advertises itself as "the premier social club just for singles!"
