Time Warner Cable has struck a carriage renewal pact with Starz Entertainment that will provide its subscribers with TV Everywhere access to the premium programmer's fare for the first time.
The deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, also covers Starz and Encore, 12 attendant multiplexes, the Movieplex, Retroplex and Indieplex services, as well as expanded video-on-demand content.
Within the next month, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Network customers (the nation’s No. 2 cable operator negotiates programming deals for the MSO) who subscribe to the premium programmer will for the first time gain access to the movies and original series on their PCs, Macs, iPhone and iPad, and select Android and other mobile devices.
Starz also has TV Everywhere deals with DirecTV and Cox Communications, plus telcos Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse. Comcast and Dish Network have rights to Starz’s content through their own digital offerings.
Expanded VOD services in many TWC markets will include bonus material for Starz original series on Starz on Demand, including, Da Vinci’s Demons; the second season of the 2013 Golden Globe-nominated Magic City that debuts on June 14; and The White Queen, which premieres on August 10. Subscribers also will gain first looks to many new Starz movies, and will be able to catch up on missed episodes of original series and hundreds of movies
“We are excited to provide our customers with access to these new innovative products and services through our agreement with Starz,” said Susan Weinstein, Time Warner Cable’s group vice president, content acquisition. “Starz and Encore are great services offering blockbuster Hollywood movies as well as an impressive commitment to original series programming. This is another example of our commitment to bring TV Everywhere to our customers.”
