Time Warner Cable Names Meeks To Head Up Business Services

Time Warner Cable said Tuesday that it has named former Cox Business Services chief Phil Meeks as executive vice president and chief operating officer for business services, beginning June 3.

In his new role, Meeks will lead TWC’s business services unit, which serves more than 570,000 business customers and accounts for approximately $2 billion in annual revenues and has about 6,000 employees. Meeks will be based in TWC’s corporate office in New York City and will report directly to the company’s president and COO, Rob Marcus.

“Phil is a proven leader in the commercial telecommunications industry, with a unique combination of telecom and cable business services experience,” said Marcus in a statement.  “Business Services is a leading driver of growth for our company. I’m excited to work with Phil to further penetrate the small business opportunity in our footprint, expand our already robust suite of products, and continue to move us up market to serve larger customers.”

Meeks joined Cox Business in 2008, leading 3,500 employees and making the unit the fastest growing in the enterprise. He most recently served as senior vice president of Cox Business. Before joining Cox, Meeks was the co-founder and lead executive for a start-up company focused on enhancing the supply chain between technology vendors and value added resellers in the Internet security, data storage and VoIP markets.  Meeks served in various strategy, sales and account management roles during 20 years of service at MCI Telecommunications, including senior vice president of sales operations and senior vice president of strategic ventures and alliances.  He started his career at AT&T Information Systems/Southern Bell in 1979 and progressed through various sales and marketing leadership roles.
