Time Warner Cable, NESN Ink Long-Term Renewal

Publish date:

Time Warner Cable has scored a long-term agreement with New England Sports Network.
The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, covers the regional sports network, owned by the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins and Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, for the MSO's subscribers in the programmer's six-state New England territory. Moreover, it pertains to 'NESN National' on Time Warner Cable's Sports Pass in the Carolinas, Ohio and Wisconsin.
The agreement is the first TWC since it jumped into the RSN game in a big way as it prepares to launch a pair of Los Angeles Lakers-centered services in southern California. It also comes as TWC is engaged in a contract renewal contretemps with MSG and sister service MSG+. The parties contract expires on Dec. 31.
"We're pleased to have come to a mutually beneficial agreement with NESN," said Jennifer Chun, group vice president, content acquisition for Time Warner Cable, in a statement. "We value sports, and NESN is one of the highest rated regional sports networks in the country. We know how important NESN's Bruins and Red Sox content is to our New England customers, in addition to their Hockey East and ACC coverage."
Noted NESN president and CEO Sean McGrail: "NESN is delighted to continue our long-standing partnership with Time Warner Cable, a company with one of the finest reputations in the industry. We value all our viewers and look forward to continue delivering our coverage of New England sports to Time Warner Cable's customers."
