Portal Software Inc. said Time Warner Cable has licensed its
customer-management and billing software to support the MSO's
multiple-Internet-service-provider trial in Columbus, Ohio, marking the second
vendor to come forward and disclose its association with the operator's
Last month, the MSO said AP Engines Inc. is handling the back-office
provisioning elements of the trial, which is expected to conclude by the middle
of this year.
Time Warner is using Portal's 'Infranet' platform, which provides tiered
billing and charges customers based on how much bandwidth they are using. The
platform also allows the operator to automate a number of pricing structures for
each ISP participating in the trial.
While vendors associated with Time Warner's open-access trial are starting to
emerge, AT&T Broadband has yet to disclose which vendors it has tapped for
its multiple-ISP trial in Boulder, Colo.
