Time Warner: Employee Records Stolen

A container housing computer tapes with data on 600,000 current and former employees of Time Warner Inc. was recently stolen during transport to an outside data-warehousing site.

Time Warner said the theft was committed against the third-party firm it has used for several years to collect and bank computerized records. It did not identify the firm, other than to say it is a leader in data storage, nor did it disclose where the theft occurred.

The media company is notifying employees whose personal information may have been compromised and will provide workers with resources to monitor their credit reports. The U.S. Secret Service is investigating the theft, with the cooperation of Time Warner and the data firm.
