Time Warner Launches IP with Cisco Gear

Cisco Systems Inc. announced that Time Warner Cable in Portland, Maine, is
using Cisco's "BTS 10200"' soft switch, "uBR7246VXR"'
cable-modem-termination-system and "MGX 8850" voice-gateway products to offer
digital phone service to customers over an Internet-protocol platform.

The deployment grows out of Time Warner's "LineRunner" voice-over-IP test in
that market.

Time Warner is using the Cisco gear to offer primary-line residential phone
services, aptly named "Digital Phone."

"With Digital Phone, TWC is able to offer combined local, in-state and
long-distance calling at a flat rate, which will translate into substantial
savings for many consumers," Time Warner senior vice president of voice Gerry
Campbell said in a prepared statement.

The Cisco BTS 10200 call-management server received Cable Television
Laboratories Inc. PacketCable 1.0 certificate in wave 25 of the organization's
testing program.
