Time Warner Systems Win Tech Awards

Engineers at Time Warner Cable's South Carolina and Syracuse, N.Y., divisions
took top honors in the third annual Cable and Broadband Security Case Study
Competition, sponsored by the Broadband & Internet Security Task Force.

Austin Coates won the award in South Carolina for a three-phase plan to stop
signal theft. The program educated consumers and local law enforcement about
cable theft. Through a "Theft of Service Hot Line," Time Warner confiscated
1,000 illegal decoders and recovered $377,000 from 312 criminal cases.

In Syracuse, Geff Dennee won the honors for a new audit program that found
the conversion rate of unauthorized viewers to be more than 28 percent, which
resulted in $196,600 in unclaimed monthly revenue.
