Time Warner Taps Tandberg in Syracuse

Tandberg Television said Thursday that Time Warner Cable is using its MPEG-2 (Moving Picture Expert Group) encoders and decoders at News 10 Now, its local news channel in Syracuse, N.Y.

The encoders and decoders, with specialized Internet-protocol modules, are used to transfer video and audio between the 24-hour news channel’s headquarters and five regional news bureaus within central and northern New York State. The system launched this past fall.

News 10 Now transfers video over an IP-based fiber ring, taking advantage of additional bandwidth within an existing IP network initially deployed for Time Warner’s Road Runner high-speed Internet service.
