TiVo Inc. said Wednesday that it would auction off a combination TiVo
personal video recorder and DirecTV Inc. direct-broadcast satellite system with
autographs from Super Bowl legends Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott.
The bidding will take place on eBay Inc.,
and the proceeds will go to benefit All Stars Helping Kids.
TiVo also announced Tuesday that it would add exclusive short films and
animations from AtomFilms to its service. The first AtomFilms content should
appear free-of-charge on the 'TiVo Takes' promotional channel within the next
two weeks, TiVo chief programming officer Stacy Jolna said.
New films will be introduced each month, and AtomFilms shorts will also be
preloaded in TiVo set-top boxes as they leave the factory as part of the
service's 'TiVo Direct' program.
'It's a way to give our consumer audience programming before they start
downloading,' Jolna said.
The AtomFilms deal 'represents TiVo's commitment to offering original
programming that you can't find anywhere else on television,' Jolna said.
AtomFilms shorts are typically found on the Web, but with TiVo, viewers can
watch in full-screen video.
TiVo stock fell 22.6 percent Wednesday in heavier-than-usual
