Shares in TiVo Inc. rose more than 5% Monday morning after the digital-video-recorder vendor announced an agreement with Yahoo! Inc. that will allow TiVo customers to program their DVRs through Yahoo!’s Web site (www.yahoo.com).
TiVo and Yahoo! said they will also allow TiVo users to use Yahoo! to download photos, traffic and weather content to TiVo receivers “in coming months.” But the companies did not announce plans to allow Web surfers to transfer video content from Yahoo! to TiVo receivers.
TiVo already allows customers with its “Series2” DVRs to remotely program their devices through TiVo.com (www.tivo.com). The Yahoo! agreement allows users who view TV listings on Yahoo!’s Web site to program their DVRs with a few mouse clicks.
Yahoo! and TiVo didn’t disclose terms of the deal. The new service launched Monday on Yahoo.com.
