Total Nonstop Action Wrestling will mark its monthly pay-per-view debut Sunday at 8 p.m. (EST) with its Victory Road event.
TNA has been airing a weekly PPV show for two years.
The company said Victory Road will mark the first time since March 18, 2001 -- when World Championship Wrestling held its last PPV event -- that World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. will have a competitor in the arena of monthly PPV shows.
“In two years, TNA has been able to leverage the weekly pay-per-view format to take the company from a virtually unknown entity to the most recognized 'New Wrestling Alternative' for fans around the world," TNA Entertainment president Dixie Carter said in a prepared statement.
“As we continue to grow the company across all platforms, we strongly believe this move will be another positive step in establishing ourselves as the serious contender in our industry,” she added.
