Going helmet-to-helmet with Fox's coverage of Game 4 of the National League Championship Series, NFL Network scored the top sports telecast of the day with its Thursday Night Football coverage.
NFL Network's presentation of the San Francisco 49ers' 13-6 win over the Seattle Seahawks averaged 7 million viewers, according to Nielsen data, a total that excluded broadcast station viewers in the participating clubs' home DMAs. That delivery beat the 6 million on Fox who watched the St. Louis Cardinals take a 3-1 edge in games in the NLCS and made TNF the most-watched program on cable on Oct. 18.
Through six games of its expanded 13-game schedule, TNF has averaging a 4.6 U.S. household rating and 7.1 million viewers, respective gains of 28% and 15% over the package's 2011 season averages. The 2012 campaign, which continues with Tampa Bay-Minnesota on Oct. 25, is on pace to be the highest-rated and most-watched Thursday Night Football season to date.
