Turner Network Television and the British Broadcasting Corp. are teaming up on a dramatic series called The Grid, about the war on terrorism, officials said Thursday.
The six-hour series, starring Dylan McDermott and Julianna Margulies, will begin production early next year in Toronto, London and Morocco. The Grid will be produced in conjunction with Fox Television Studios and Carnival Films.
Margulies will play a maverick counterterrorism operative and McDermott an FBI agent who collaborate to derail a terrorist cell.
The Grid is a series with stand-alone episodes, and not a miniseries, according to a TNT spokeswoman. It will premiere in one-hour weekly blocks this summer.
"The Grid is very well-written. It’s rich in character, and it tells a complex story about one of the most provocative, relatable subjects we face today in a gripping, thought-provoking manner," TNT senior vice president of original programming Michael Wright said in a prepared statement.
"It’s smart drama, and we think it’s emblematic of the TNT brand," he added.
