TNT Dunks 6.1M Viewers with 'All-Star Saturday Night'

A cold Saturday night in Brooklyn didn't stop Steph Curry and Zack LaVine from heating up the competition inside Barclays Center and for TNT's  NBA All-Star Saturday Night coverage.

TNT's exclusive presentation that saw Golden State's Curry beat seven of the NBA's top marksmen in the 3-point shooting contest and Minnesota's Zack LaVine reenergize the slam dunk competition earned a 3.4 U.S. rating and 6.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen fast national data. Those deliveries were up 10% and 7%, respectively, from 2014 to stand as the network's fourth-best performance with the event.

 The Valentine's night telecast, which won the night across all of cable and broadcast TV, peaked with a 4.2 rating and 7.8 million viewers in the 10:45 p.m. quarter hour, when LaVine was closing out Orlando's Victor Oladipo to don the dunking diadem.

The TNT telecast garnered a 7.2 rating in New York, the highest rating ever for the event in the nation's top DMA.  

Top local markets for TNT’s coverage of the event were Cleveland (7.9), Atlanta (7.7), San Antonio (7.4), New York and Portland (6.1).

Nationally, NBA All-Star Saturday Night netted increases across all core demographics, including a 29% rise with men 25 to 54 and a 19% gain with people of that age.

The significant audience figures extended across social media platforms All-Star Saturday Night content published across Turner’s NBA on TNT and NBA TV accounts via Facebook and Twitter reaching a gross audience of 77 million fans and followers and generating 14.5 million video views.  The event was also the No. 1 social primetime program, according to Nielsen Social Guide, and represented 73% of the total Twitter audience for the entire day.

Additionally, live video streams for the event across digital screens – including Turner’s TVE platforms – were up 89% over last year, according to Turner officials.

Turner Sports’ exclusive presentation of the NBA State Farm All-Star Saturday Night delivered significant audience totals across all platforms including an average of 6.1 million total viewers watching the live event telecast on TNT.  The telecast, which averaged a 3.4 U.S. HH rating, propelled the network to win the night across all of television. 

TNT’s coverage of State Farm All-Star Saturday Night is up 10% in U.S. HH rating and 7% among total viewers over last year.  It ranks as the fourth most-viewed telecast in the history of the event.  Last night’s telecast peaked with a 4.2 U.S. HH rating and 7.8 million total viewers from 10:45-11 p.m. ET.
