Turner Network Television sank some big numbers with the first two rounds of
golf's final Grand Slam event of the year.
TNT posted a 1.8 household average Aug. 15 during its 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
coverage of the PGA Championship from the Hazeltine National golf course in
Chaska, Minn. The general-entertainment network scored a 2.4 household average
for the same six hours the following day.
The two-day average of 2.1 was up 11 percent from the 2001 event, and it
represented the highest two-day cumulative total for TNT with the PGA tournament
since 1997, according to network officials.
National ratings for TNT's PGA coverage over the weekend will be available
TNT holds the rights through the Grand Slam event -- won this year by Rich
Beem, by one stroke over Tiger Woods -- through 2011.
