Turner Network Television was on top, but the race for second place in basic cable’s primetime was hotly contested last week.
The drama network claimed the top spot with a 2.1 household rating, just ahead of the 1.9 rung up by Nick at Nite and USA Network April 11-17, according to a Disney ABC Cable Networks Group analysis of Nielsen Media Research data. Disney Channel was fourth with a 1.8 average.
Cartoon Network was fifth with a 1.6 mark, followed by Lifetime Television’s 1.5. TBS and The History Channel were next with a 1.4 apiece. Spike TV -- which claimed the top programs of the week with its coverage of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc.’s Raw April 11 -- and Fox News Channel rounded out the top 10, both pulling in 1.3 household ratings last week.
Gauged on a total-programming-day basis, Nickelodeon was first with a 1.7, besting channel-sharer NAN’s 1.5. A trio of Turner properties -- TNT, Cartoon and Nielsen late-night spinoff service Adult Swim -- ranked third through fifth with respective averages of 1.3, 1.2 and 1.1. Disney grabbed a slice of fifth, tying Adult Swim’s performance.
In just its third week as a separately measured network, Adult Swim claimed a new industry standard for the delivery of men 18-24 (242,000 of those viewers). That performance again helped to push the animated late-night purveyor to the top of basic cable in terms of delivering adults 18-34 (430,000), men 18-34 (282,000) and males 18-24 (163,000), according to Turner officials.
