The publicity Outdoor Life Network has gotten for its Tour de France
bike-race coverage translated into a nice lift in the ratings.
OLN said Thursday that its Nielsen Media Research rating hit a gross
household audience of 1.3 for the first four days of coverage of American Lance
Armstrong’s tour title defense.
The live coverage was seen in an average of 199,000 homes, double what it got
the first four days of last year's coverage.
OLN said its primetime coverage was seen in an average of 218,000 homes, up
163% over the first four days a year ago.
The network added that close to 1 million viewers watched its five daily
telecasts of the 2003 tour, pacing July to be its highest-rated primetime month
