WGN Superstation parent Tribune Co. said it generated $458 million in consolidated revenue during May, down 1.9% from the $467 million it reported during the same month last year.
Tribune -- which also owns newspapers and local TV stations -- said broadcasting- and entertainment-group revenues fell 4.6% to $135 million in May. The media firm attributed a 7.5% decrease in television revenues to soft advertising revenue in most markets.
Tribune said weakness in the auto, movie and retail advertising categories was partially offset by increases in ad revenue from education and food-company media buyers.
The company added that the rollout of Nielsen Media Research’s “Local People Meters” in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston continues to impact television revenues.
