Trio Adds to ‘Awards Mania’

Trio Monday added several documentaries and classic films to its monthlong "Awards Mania" programming stunt scheduled for December.

On Dec. 14, the network will air an original documentary series, The Golden Globes: Hollywood's Dirty Little Secret, an inside look at one of Hollywood's most influential events, Trio president Lauren Zalaznick said.

Also on tap during the month are several classic Miss America pageant telecasts, including the 1983 version, in which Vanessa Williams became the first black pageant winner, and the 1958 event, which crowned television and Broadway star Mary Ann Mobley.

Other highlights include the airing of all three versions (1952, 1954 and 1976) of hit movie A Star is Born, as well as a documentary on a bizarre contest in which participants have to stand on their feet 24 hours a day in the Arizona desert to win a sport-utility vehicle.
