Trio Facing DirecTV Boot

DirecTV Inc. said it will drop Trio when the network’s contract with the direct-broadcast satellite operator expires Dec. 31 unless a new deal is reached, Reuters reported.

The arts and culture channel is owned by NBC Universal, the entity being created by Vivendi Universal Entertainment's merger with NBC.

"We have a contract dispute with Universal Television," DirecTV spokesman Bob Marsocci told Reuters. "If we cannot reach an acceptable agreement with Universal TV by Dec. 31, then Trio will no longer be available on DirecTV."
