Canadian sports network TSN is working with Tandberg Television to launch a Web-based interactive-television application that literally gets viewers into the game.
Launched in concert with the opening of the Canadian Football League season, the application allows users to choose a team in a particular game. Throughout the game, they gain or lose points based on their team’s performance and scoring.
It also provides added facts and figures about players and live chat rooms where viewers can swap comments about the game and answer trivia questions to win added points.
"TSN Interactive is a great example of how networks can incorporate interactivity into programming that dramatically enhances the television experience," Tandberg CEO Eric Cooney said.
"Viewers are already multitasking while viewing sports, often comparing online stats while watching the game on TV,” he added. “This application will provide sports fans with a fully immersive and interactive environment to leverage that interest and engage them more deeply in the broadcast."
