TV Guide Drags Down Gemstar-TV Guide Revenue

Lower circulation and ad sales at TV Guide led to second-quarter revenue of $133.3 million at Gemstar-TV Guide International, down from $158.3 million in the year-earlier period.

Net income was earned $14.6 million, or 3 cents per share, versus a net loss of $5.1 million (1 cent) in the second quarter of 2005.

The company said TV Guide Channel’s distribution rose to 78.5 million households, the network’s original-programming hours doubled and its total-day length of tune increased 5% versus the previous-year quarter.

As for TV Guide Interactive, revenue was up 23% versus the second quarter of 2005, driven by growth in licensed digital-cable and direct-broadcast satellite households.
